ChatGPT + Other Tools — The AI Stack

ChatGPT is not one tool — it's a platform with DALL-E, browsing, and code interpreter built in. And sometimes Claude or Gemini is the better choice. Here's the honest breakdown.

Day 3
4 Day 4
5 Day 5
What You'll Learn Today

How to use ChatGPT's built-in tools: DALL-E for images, browsing for real-time research, and code interpreter for automation. Plus an honest comparison of ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini — so you always use the right tool for the job.

1
DALL-E

ChatGPT + DALL-E for Image Generation

ChatGPT's image generation is powered by DALL-E 3. Unlike using DALL-E directly, you can have a conversation with ChatGPT to refine your images iteratively.

When to use it

  • Presentation slides and visual mockups
  • Blog post hero images and social media graphics
  • Quick concept illustrations for client decks
  • Placeholder imagery while waiting for real photos
Effective Image Prompt Pattern
Create an image of [subject].
Style: [photorealistic / illustration / minimalist / corporate / painterly]
Mood: [professional / energetic / calm / dramatic]
Colors: [specific palette or general direction]
Composition: [wide shot / close-up / overhead / portrait]
Do NOT include: [text / people / logos / etc.]

Iteration tip: After the first image, tell ChatGPT exactly what to change: "Same image but remove the person on the right and make the background more blue." ChatGPT remembers the conversation — you don't need to re-describe everything.

2
Browsing

ChatGPT with Browsing for Research

ChatGPT's browsing tool searches the web in real-time. This matters because ChatGPT's training data has a cutoff — for current events, recent statistics, or competitor research, you need browsing enabled.

How to trigger browsing

ChatGPT automatically decides when to browse based on your question. You can also explicitly say "Search the web for..." or ask about recent events. Watch for the "Searching..." indicator to confirm it's pulling live data.

Research Prompts That Trigger Browsing
# Competitive research
Search the web and find [competitor]'s current pricing page.
Summarize their plans, features, and any recent changes.

# Market research
Find recent statistics (2025-2026) on [market/industry].
Cite your sources with links.

# News monitoring
Find the latest news about [company/topic] from the last 30 days.
Summarize the 5 most important developments.

# Fact-checking
Verify this claim: "[claim]". Search for evidence for and against it.

Always check sources: ChatGPT browsing is helpful but not infallible. Check the cited links for anything you're going to publish or present. AI can misread or misattribute web content.

3
Comparison

ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini — Honest Comparison

This is the section this course is obligated to include. These are real assessments based on actual usage in April 2026 — not marketing copy.

ChatGPT
OpenAI
  • Custom GPTs are genuinely useful
  • DALL-E integration is seamless
  • Largest ecosystem of plugins/tools
  • Best general availability and speed
  • Strong at following format instructions
  • Worse at long documents than Claude
  • Can be sycophantic (agrees too much)
  • Less precise on complex reasoning tasks
Best for: Custom GPTs, image generation, general daily use, browsing research
Claude
Anthropic
  • Better at long document analysis
  • More precise and nuanced reasoning
  • More honest about what it doesn't know
  • Better at coding complex logic
  • Stronger at following nuanced instructions
  • No image generation built in
  • Smaller ecosystem than ChatGPT
  • Can be overly cautious in some areas
Best for: Long docs, complex reasoning, coding, tasks where accuracy matters most
Gemini
Google
  • Deep Google Workspace integration
  • Best at tasks involving Google Docs/Sheets
  • Good multimodal (image + text) reasoning
  • Real-time Google Search integration
  • Less consistent than ChatGPT or Claude
  • Prompt following can be weaker
  • Fewer third-party integrations
Best for: Google Workspace users, research that needs live search, Docs/Sheets tasks

The pragmatic rule: Use whichever tool does the specific job better. For this course's content (prompting, Custom GPTs, data analysis, workflows), ChatGPT is the right focus. For coding a complex system, Claude is often better. For summarizing a 200-page PDF, Claude's longer context window wins. Keep all three accounts bookmarked.

Day 4 Complete

  • Know how to use DALL-E within ChatGPT for iterative image generation
  • Can trigger and use ChatGPT's browsing tool for real-time research
  • Understand when to use ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini
  • Have an honest mental model of each tool's strengths and weaknesses
