A teacher's-eye introduction.

This 5-day course is built for the working federal employee — GS staff at civilian agencies, DoD civilians at the Pentagon and at the components, contracting and program staff, and analysts and program managers across the IC. The premise is simple: federal AI use is a compliance question first and a productivity question second. Get the compliance right and the productivity follows naturally.

Each day produces a workflow you can use this week and a clear sense of how it maps to OMB M-24-10, agency AI policy, FedRAMP authorizations, CUI handling rules, the Federal Records Act, the Privacy Act, and Section 508 accessibility. We will be specific about what content can safely go into which AI tool, with examples drawn from real federal work patterns.

This course does not assume you have a clearance, and it does not require you to have one. Every workflow is at the unclassified level. The same rules and tools apply at higher classifications, but the specific authorized environments differ — your CISO is the authority for those.

The 5 Days

Each day stands alone. Read in order or jump to the workflow that fits your role first.

Concrete outcomes by Friday.

By the end of the week you will have done each of these at least once with templates to repeat them.

Read OMB M-24-10 like a practitioner

Identify whether your specific use case falls inside, outside, or near the rights-impacting and safety-impacting boundaries — and what each requires.

Pick the right tool for the data

Match every AI use to the right environment — public, FedRAMP Moderate, FedRAMP High, GovCloud, or "do not use AI on this content."

Draft a decision memo in 30 minutes

From staff-meeting bullet points to a polished, reviewable decision memo, in a fraction of the typical drafting time.

Summarize a 200-page RFP responsibly

Use authorized AI to extract requirements, evaluation factors, and ambiguities from long acquisition documents — without crossing into source-selection roles AI must not play.

Keep records that pass an audit

AI-use logs, prompt-and-output retention, and disclosure language that satisfies OIG and GAO reviewers.

Brief your leadership clearly

One-pagers, talking points, and Q&A prep that give your principals the facts and the framing they need.

Three kinds of federal employees read this.

GS Civilian Staff

You write memos, brief leadership, and manage programs all day. AI compresses the writing tasks while you stay inside agency policy and OMB guidance.

DoD Civilians

Pentagon staff, component HQ, and the field — the writing load is heavy and the compliance regime is heavier. This course teaches the workflows that pass.

Contracting and Program Staff

Acquisition, contracting officers, and program management need AI that fits FAR/DFARS limits. This course is specific about which AI uses are safe and which require careful boundaries.

Keep going.

If federal AI fits your work, these are the natural next steps.
